Panel: Better Acetaminophen Labeling Needed

CNN.com

CNN.com reported on October 2, 2003, that the FDA Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee has issued recommendations for labeling changes on acetaminophen. Suggested changes include: Highlighting all active ingredients Warning about potential liver damage if daily doses are exceeded Instructing users to avoid taking multiple products containing acetaminophen Inadvertent multisource usage is the main concern of these additional warnings. Acetaminophen remains one of the safest nonprescription pain relievers when used appropriately; however, the American Association of Poison Control Centers indicates that acetaminophen also remains one of the most common overdose agents reported. The Advisory Committee also suggested starting a public service advertising campaign to educate consumers on these issues.
