• In a recommendation statement published in the February 2010 issue of Pediatrics, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force advises clinicians to screen children 6 years of age and older for obesity and offer them or refer them to intensive counseling and behavioral interventions to promote improvements in weight status. • On January 15, 2010, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) announced plans to introduce legislation that will make pseudoephedrine-containing drugs available by prescription only. The specific timeline for formally introducing the legislation is not known.
• Each issue of the journal Alternative and Complementary Therapies will now include a monograph prepared by Natural Standard. The current issue features “Diabetes: An Integrative Approach” (available at http://www.liebertonline.com/doi/pdfplus/10.1089/act.2009.15605?cookieSet=1).
• SelfCare is a new independent, international academic journal for health care professionals that seeks to encourage state-of-the-art research and foster discussion on the present practice and future direction of self care, including its impact on public health policy. The first issue is expected to be published in March 2010; additional information about the journal and manuscript submission guidelines are available at http://www.selfcarejournal.com/.
